Sid Dyke

One of my favourite artists on early Canadian paperbacks is Sid Dyke. He did covers for Harlequin Books and Export Publishing Enterprises and I'll showcase his work in two series of posts. Here is a couple of my favourite Dyke covers as a teaser.

News Stand Library 20A - February 1950

Harlequin 232 - June 1953

  1. How could I have missed this? The American edition of Sugar-Puss on Dorchester Street reads just Sugar-Puss (albeit above a sign reading "Dorchester Street"), while its dust jacket has the full title (actually, it looks more like Suqer-Puss on Dorchester Street).

And so, I have to ask, what do the spines of the dust jacket and cover say? How about the title page?

  2. The title page has "Sugar-Puss on Dorchester street as does the spine. The back cover has "Sugar Puss on Dorchester Street". The DJ has "Sugar Puss" on the spine and does not have the title on the back.

    So three versions.

  3. Oh, well, at least they didn't mess up the author's name.
